1. When was Augustinium established?

Augustinium is one of the oldest schools in Namibia that was established in the 960’s at Okahandja. Prominent former students are  Andimba Toivo Ya Toivo (former Minister of Prison and Correctional Services), Theo-Ben Gurirab (Chairperson for the National Assembly) and Peter Katjavivi (Ambassador to the UK ).

How many learners were enrolled last year?

The school enrolled 1073 learners with 18 learners exempted from paying school fees last year.

What were the achievements of the school in 2007?

Eighteen learners from Augustinium were chosen to participate in the National Athletic Championships while the school’s under-19 netball team managed to obtain second place in the School Challenge Championship.

In order to cater for the less privileged learners, a teacher at the school started a soup kitchen to provide meals to learners who are less fortunate. Last year, we also managed to pay off all our debts with the aim of obtaining a 35-bus seater in 2008.

Are Principals faced with challenges?

Principals are sometimes faced with a number of challenges although my management style is strictly an open door policy, which allows for staff members to participate in the decision-making process. I am also strict, fair and always consult other principals for guidance.

What goals have you set for the school for the year 2008?

Although last year, the school’s Grade 10 pass rate was 29.3%, each year there are goals set to cater for issues needing immediate attention and this year’s goals is to increase the passing rate for both Grade 10 and 12 learners.
