INTERVIEWS WITH THE SELECTED SCHOOLS IN THE KHOMAS REGION  

The Public Relations Officer, Ms. Ester Paulus and Public Relations Assistant, Mr. Setson Nghidinwa visited some schools in the Khomas region and interviewed the School Principals to find out how they performed in the year 2007 and the challenges they faced.

When was the school established?  

Orban primary school was established in 1912 and was then known as Real Schule.  

How many learners were enrolled in 2007?  

The school enrolled 823 learners and we were rated as the best performing state primary school for 2005 and 2006 with a 100% of pass rates with most learners having performed well above average.  

What have been your biggest challenges?  

The biggest challenge for the school is maintaining its good performance rate and. Resources are also becoming more limited by the day.  

Being rated the best performing Primary School in 2005 and 2006, what unique management style do you make use of?  

The management is indeed very strict. We work strictly according to the school’s weekly, term and year plan schedule. The school management also utilises expertise of the staff to reach every goal set up in the plan.  

What were your schools achievements for 2007?  

In 2007, the school introduced a program called “ Reading with Understanding” on Grade 1-3 level and the school plans to extend the program to Grades 5-7 in 2008.  

Do you have future plans for the year 2008?  

Structures are being put in place to empower teachers to identify learners with dyslexia; to create effective study methods in the Upper Primary Level; to bring upon capital projects that will generate funds for the school and to make learners more aware of their responsibilities.  

Are there learners at your school who were exempted from paying school development fund in 2007? 

The school exempted 10 learners from paying school fees in 2007.
