News TEACHERS IN CAPRIVI CELEBRATE EDU-SECTOR HEALTH DAY
Educators in the Caprivi Region turned up in numbers to commemorate the Edu-Sector Health day held at the Caprivi college of Education on Friday 20th February 2009 under the theme ‘Healthy Workforce for better Service Delivery, Healthy Teachers For Quality Education’. The day, which is aimed at exposing and providing
education sector’ employees and their families with HIV/AIDS prevention,
voluntary testing and counseling communication saw countless employees
turn up for HIV/AIDS testing. Officiating at the event, the Minister of Health and Social Services, Richard Nchabi Kamwi said, since the education sector is the single largest employer with over 40 000 people it has an immense responsibility to ensure the preservation of its human capital. The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Richard Nchabi Kamwi gave a stern warning to the Caprivi Regional Education Office following the declining rate of education in the region. Kamwi who made the remarks during the Edu-Sector health day held at the Caprivi College of Education could not hide his dissatisfaction as he called on the Education Regional Director together with the teaching staff to pull themselves from underneath and commit themselves in providing quality education similar to the past. “Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate, Ordinary and Higher level results for 2008, Caprivi was number 10 and 13 out of 13 regions compared to the past when the passing rate was one of the best”. Read more on this story LUX Development Donates Books and Electronic Equipments worth more than N$ 2 million The Luxembourg Agency for Development Cooperation
(LUX
Development), donated library books, computers, electronic equipment and
library furniture to the Ministry of Education on 14 February 2008. The
donated goods are earmarked for 11 schools in the Caprivi and Omaheke
regions. The donation goods are valued at 200 000 EURO (approx,
N$ 2 232 080). The 11 schools were selected by LUX Development in
consultation with the Ministry’s Directorate of National Library and
Archives Services (NLAS). The goods will only be delivered to the schools once the conditions of the libraries at the selected schools are assessed, then refurbished and furnished if necessary in order to ensure the safety of the books and the equipment. MINISTRY OF EDUCATION RECEIVES ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENTS FROM USAID BES 3 PROJECT The Ministry of Education received a donation of 6
laptops and 10 digital cameras from the USAID Basic Education Support (BES)
Projects while the Ministry provided 5 laptops, files and stationary to
the NESE teams. The electronic equipments were handed to the Ministry on 01 February 2008. According to Mr. Alfred
Ilukena, Under Secretary for
formal Education at the Ministry of Education, it is best for the Ministry
to identify its own deficiencies in order to enable schools and the
Ministry at large to plan more efficiently.
Award
by the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) The
Ministry of Education signed an Accreditation Agent Agreement with the
ICDL Foundation of South Africa in 2006. The aim is to have all school

Training Workshops on HIV
and AIDS Manual Incorporating HIV and AIDS in the adult education
curriculum The
Ministry of Education’s plan to introduce HIV and AIDS as a subject in
the school curriculum is a welcoming move. Children need to be alerted
about the pandemic at early age, if ENTREPRENEURSHIP
SUBJECT MATERIALS LAUNCHED The
Ministry of Education recently launched the subject and promotional
materials for the Entrepreneurship subject. This new subject will be
introduced in all schools next year (2008) starting with Grade 5 and Grade
8. The
Ministry’s partners in this project are Bank ECB
donates to ETSIP The Electricity Control Board donated N$ 20 000 the Ministry of Education’s ETSIP programme. The donation is part of the N$ 50 000 pledged at last year’s Roundtable Pledging Conference. The rest of the pledge will be paid out of the next three years.More News .
